Her online studio rates are: $195 monthly / half-hour lesson$290 monthly / 45-minute lesson$380 monthly / hour lesson(Please inquire about lesson prices in her home of Bend, Oregon) Paula believes that every person who walks into her studio with the desire to learn piano should be given the tools to soar and express themselves through music. While studying piano at Interlochen Arts Academy, Paula had her first teaching experience assisting a beginning piano class. She then taught private lessons in Toronto, Montreal, and San Francisco. She has taught group piano at San Francisco State University. Her students truly enjoy learning piano and they usually take lessons for many years. She also enjoys presenting nationally to piano teachers about the importance of teaching engaging music and creativity from the very first lesson. Paula enjoys giving private lessons to students of all levels and ages. Although classical music is her focus, she individualizes the lessons to suit the student. Her teaching style emphasizes note-reading skills, rote pieces, tone production, technique, and playing with ease and expression. She has studied the Taubman method of piano technique since 2005 and enjoys incorporating these ideas of alignment into the lessons. Twice a year, students are invited to perform in an informal setting for a studio recital. These recitals are a great opportunity to meet other students, work toward a goal, and to gain performing experience. Motivated students are invited to participate in the Royal Conservatory’s Music Development Program. Two of Paula’s students were invited to perform at the Royal Conservatory’s gala concert for being among the top scorers in California. Congratulations, girls! Paula incorporates her own book Little Gems for Piano: Rote Pieces that Motivate and Captivate into lessons. This collection contains motivating pieces for beginners that sound impressive, yet are deceptively easy to execute. These pieces spark wonder and build confidence and allow the student to move freely across the keyboard. She uses Irina Gorin’s Tales of a Musical Journey method book for beginners because it incorporates reading skills, and a healthy, solid technique. She supplements this with creative rote and improvisation pieces. Please reach out to Paula through the contact form with any questions!
